Michael E. Monaco is a patent attorney practicing in the area of intellectual property with emphasis in patent preparation, prosecution and licensing throughout the world. His practice covers a broad range of technologies including electrical and mechanical arts.
Prior to joining LHDK&W, Mr. Monaco worked as an attorney at two different major intellectual property law firms dealing with domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecutions related to various technical fields of art, including semiconductor devices, video conferencing, telecommunications, digital television, and wireless communications. Mr. Monaco has extensive experience in client interviews, counseling, preparing applications and working with examiners in the United States Patent and Trademarks Office. Mr. Monaco also has performed numerous patent litigation analyses, infringement/clearance opinions and due diligence analyses for patent portfolio acquisitions. He also advises clients on infringement issues as well as compliance with telecommunications standards.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Monaco worked for 17 years as an electrical engineer for the MITRE Corporation on a variety of military and government matters. Mr. Monaco served four years on active duty as an officer and nuclear engineer in the U.S. Navy’s submarine service and 13 years in the Naval Reserve, retiring as a Commander.
Mr. Monaco is licensed to practice in the State of Virginia and is registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is a member of the Virginia Bar Association.
