Jonathan Y. Kang is the head of the IP practice group and his practice covers all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent prosecution and acquisition, licensing negotiation, litigation, validity and infringement opinions, product clearance, technology transfers and joint ventures. He also provides counsel on monetization of patent portfolios and licensing strategies.
Mr. Kang’s technical expertise includes wireless communications, audio/video codec, digital television, memory devices, Internet protocol, liquid crystal displays, consumer electronic equipment, semiconductors, business models, automotive technologies, medical devices, integrated circuits, microprocessors, computers, software and mechanical devices. In these disciplines, he has prepared and successfully prosecuted hundreds of patent applications. In addition, Mr. Kang has significant experience in wireless telecommunication technology (5G, LTE, WCDMA, etc.) including license negotiations with major telecommunication companies regarding standard essential patents.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Kang designed and developed digital signal processing and diagnostic algorithms for military radar and automated test equipment while serving as an engineering supervisor at Hughes.
He is admitted to practice in California, the United States District Courts, Central and Northern Districts of California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
