James J. Chae is an associate in the firm’s Newport Beach office. Mr. Chae practices in the areas of commercial litigation, compliance, and regulatory investigations, representing foreign and domestic clients in complex litigation, sensitive investigations, and government inquiries.
Mr. Chae’s practice focuses on regulatory compliance and government investigations at both the federal and state levels. He advises clients in responding to agency inquiries, reporting obligations, consent orders, and enforcement actions, including matters involving product and environmental regulation. He conducts compliance audits and provides training to mitigate risk, strengthen internal controls, and prepare organizations for regulatory scrutiny. His work reflects a practical understanding of how U.S. regulators assess compliance and how companies can strategically manage government oversight.
In addition to his regulatory practice, Mr. Chae handles commercial litigation matters in both state and federal courts, including complex civil disputes involving contractual claims, cross-border issues, and foreign judgment enforcement.
Mr. Chae received his Juris Doctor in 2014 from UC Davis School of Law, where he served as Managing Editor of the UC Davis Law Review and as President of the Korean American Law Students Association.
Mr. Chae is admitted to practice law in the State of California and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
