Peter Y. Lee is a partner in the Los Angeles office of Lee, Hong, Degerman, Kang & Waimey, specializing in the areas of real estate, construction and business law.  Within his areas of expertise, Mr. Lee handles both transactional and litigation matters.  Having started his legal career as a litigator, Mr. Lee’s practice evolved into handling complex transactions and providing general counseling to his corporate clients.

Mr. Lee’s real estate practice involves advising clients on a wide range of real estate issues, such as development, acquisition, disposition, financing, leasing, property management, foreclosure, environmental, risk management, and insurance coverage.  Mr. Lee previously worked at Cox, Castle & Nicholson, a leading real estate law firm.  Mr. Lee’s recent transactional work includes the purchase and financing of a $28 million shopping center, an $11 million industrial building, and a $6 million office building.  With the recent downturn in the economy, a number of clients have sought Mr. Lee’s assistance with loan workouts and foreclosure proceedings.

In the area of construction law, Mr. Lee represents developers, owners, contractors, design professionals and trades at all stages of construction, from contract formation, to the bidding process, to disputes that arise during or after construction, such as change order claims, delay claims, and defective work claims.  Mr. Lee was instrumental in resolving a number of complex construction disputes involving numerous contractors, trades, suppliers, and their respective insurers, including a $10 million settlement involving a public works project.

Mr. Lee also represents various businesses in different industries, such as those in the textile, high-tech, manufacturing, import/export, banking, insurance, and financial services.  He provides general counseling on a wide range of topics that affect businesses such as labor and employment matters, franchise and licensing agreements, trademark and copyright law, confidentiality and trade secret disputes, and unfair business practice claims.  Mr. Lee takes great pride in offering practical, result-oriented advice to further his clients’ business objectives.

As part of his litigation practice, Mr. Lee has handled numerous cases from inception to successful resolution, whether by mediation, arbitration or trial.  His experience includes substantial appellate work including multiple appearances before the California Court of Appeal.  He actively practices in both state and federal courts, having been admitted to the Northern, Central and Southern California Districts of the United States District Court.
